Should You Upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro Max?
Our advice: if you use an iPhone 15 or older, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is worth considering. If you have an iPhone 16 Pro Max, upgrade for features you will actually use. If you own an iPhone 17 Pro Max and it still meets your needs, keeping it is a sensible choice.
The right upgrade depends on your current phone, how you use it, and the amount you are comfortable spending. Here is how we would approach the decision at Switch Store in Harare.

Should you upgrade from an iPhone 15 or older?
Consider upgrading if your current phone is limiting what you do. Perhaps you regularly run out of storage, want more control over photos and video, or would prefer a larger screen.
Apple lists a 6.9-inch display, an A20 Pro chip, and a 48MP main camera with variable aperture for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Variable aperture lets the camera adjust the opening through which light enters. These are features to weigh against your needs, rather than reasons everyone must upgrade. See Apple's technical specifications.
Be specific about your starting point: an iPhone 15 and an iPhone 15 Pro Max are different phones. Try the size in your hand and compare the features you use most.
If your only frustration is battery life, ask about a battery assessment before committing to a new phone.
Should you upgrade from an iPhone 16 Pro Max?
Upgrade if the new features solve a problem you notice regularly. If your phone already handles your work, photos, calls and entertainment comfortably, you can take your time.
Ask yourself:
- What can I not do comfortably on my current phone?
- Will the camera changes matter to the photos or videos I actually make?
- Is the cost worthwhile after accounting for any confirmed trade-in value?
If you cannot name a meaningful benefit, keeping your iPhone 16 Pro Max is a reasonable decision. If you create content or use demanding apps, compare those specific tasks before choosing.
Should you upgrade from an iPhone 17 Pro Max?
Our recommendation is to keep it if it is doing everything you need. A newer model does not automatically make your current phone the wrong one.
You may still want the iPhone 18 Pro Max for a particular feature—or simply because you enjoy owning the newest model. That is a personal preference. Decide whether the difference in cost is worth it to you.
There is no need to invent a problem with a phone you are still happy using.
How much will your upgrade cost?
Your upgrade balance is the selected phone's price minus your confirmed trade-in value. Check the exact storage option and current price, then compare the balance with your budget.

Can you trade in your iPhone in Harare?
Yes. Switch Store offers iPhone trade-ins, with the final value confirmed after an in-store inspection and diagnostics.
Start with our trade-in estimator. The online result is an indication for planning, not a guaranteed offer. Battery health, screen and back-glass condition, camera performance, and Face ID status can affect the final valuation.
Bring your device to Switch Store at 07 Livingstone Avenue, Harare. Once the value is confirmed, you can review the amount due for your chosen upgrade. If your model is not listed in the estimator, contact us to discuss it before visiting.
